GUL WELCOMED WITH FOUR DIFFERENT LANGUAGES IN MARDIN
The southeastern province of Mardin, which unites many religions and cultures, welcomed its President Abdullah Gul with banners prepared in Arabic, Kurdish, Assyrian and Turkish. Gul said, "people from every religion will continue to live in Mardin in peace."
ISTANBUL BECOMES FAVORITE OF FORD
Ford Otosan Director General Nuri Otay said that Turkey had become an attraction center, adding that engineers of Ford in the general of the world were looking forward to work in Istanbul.
IS BANKASI BUYS BANK IN RUSSIA
According to Russian Kommerstant newspaper, purchasing procedures of 100 percent of Bank Sofia were completed, and Turkish Is Bankasi would pay 34.5 million USD for the bank.

FOUR LANGUAGES, ONE WELCOMING
Turkish President Abdullah Gul and his wife Hayrunnisa Gul, were welcomed in four different languages in Mardin where they attended an arts exhibition. "Welcome to the city of Mardin," said a banner greeting the Gul couple outside the exhibition hall in Turkish, Kurdish, Arabic and in Assyrian.
GOVERNMENT TO PARDON PART OF PENALTY ON OVERDUE TAXES
Turkish Deputy Premier and State Minister for the economy Ali Babacan said the government was getting ready to introduce tax and penalty remission for overdue taxes, insurance premiums as well as utility bills. Appearing in televised interview, Babacan said the plan covered penalty remission for overdue real estate taxes and electricity and water bills.

THE LAW WORKS FOR SAMAST
The case of Ogun Samast, suspected murderer of Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink, was sent to Juvenile Court within the scope of "stone-throwing children's law". Dink's wife Rakel Dink reacted to the decision, and said, "justice is fettered with laws".

HE'LL BE RELEASED FIVE YEARS EARLIER
Like Vatan had warned earlier, Ogun Samast --murderer of Turkish-Amenian journalist Hrant Dink-- was included in "the stone-throwing children's law". Samast will be tried in Juvenile Court, and he will receive less penalty. Three months ago, Turkish Parliament adopted a law which envisions trial of children under the age of 18 in Juvenile Court. The law aims to eliminate the unjust treatment against children who were forced to commit crimes.
AMNESTY FOR DEBT OF REAL ESTATE, WATER & ELECTRICITY TAXES
Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan announced that the citizens' debt of electricity, water and real estate taxes would be restructured. He noted that they would discuss debts of tax and insurance premiums with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Babacan added, "legal arrangement will be completed in November at latest."

UNIVERSITY STUDENTS SUSPENDED OVER
Twenty-six students at the Yildiz Technical University have been suspended pending an investigation into a protest last week against the use of headscarf in universities and violent incidents that followed. The suspended student reacted to the decision, saying, "we were the ones that came under an attack and we are the ones who are suspended. This is their understanding of freedom."
RENEWED SUPREME BOARD OF JUDGES, PROSECUTORS HOLDS FIRST MEETING
The Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors, a key body which appoints judges and prosecutors, held its maiden meeting on Monday after it has been overhauled as part of a EU-inspired constitutional reform package. In its first meeting, the board elected its acting chairperson.

SECOND TAX AMNESTY WITHIN THREE YEARS
Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan announced that the citizens' debt of electricity, water and real estate taxes would be restructured. This is the government's second tax amnesty in three years. The tax amnesty has to be adopted as soon as possible because it is brought onto agenda, otherwise, its scope will be wider as the time extends.

DOZENS INCLUDING MILITARY OFFICERS UNDER CUSTODY IN PROBE OVER PROSTITUTION GANG
Police on Monday detained 35 people including a retired military officer and 11 others on active duty in a probe against an alleged prostitution ring in the Turkish Naval Forces that is accused of blackmailing admirals using illegally taped video footage. Police raided and searched houses of 14 suspects in a simultaneous operation in nine cities. The detainees also included a senior bureaucrat with the Undersecretariat for Defense Industry, four employees of TUBITAK, Turkey's national science agency.
TURKISH-ARMENIAN JOURNALIST'S SUSPECTED KILLER TO BE TRIED IN CHILD COURT
A criminal court in Istanbul ruled on Monday that the suspected hitman in the killing of Turkish-Armenain journalist Hrant Dink was to be tried in a child court because he was under 18 years old when he allegedly committed the murder. Prosecutors in the case at the criminal court demanded a prison term for Samast for up to 29 years whereas the maximum time he could do is 26.5 years when he is tried at the child court under a new legislation that has come to be known as "the stone-throwing children's law."
EU TO DEPLOY ARMED GUARDS AT GREECE-TURKEY BORDER
The European Union has moved to dispatch armed units of European guards to Greece to patrol the country's border with Turkey to ward off illegal migration from Turkey. This will be first assignment of the FRONTEX rapid intervention team since it was created.

WHETHER TO ATTEND OR NOT TO OCTOBER 29 RECEPTION IS FREE IN CHP
Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) left the decision to its deputies whether to attend or not to October 29 Republic Day reception at Cankaya Presidential Palace. CHP Deputy Chairman Hakki Suha Okay said that they did not make a group decision about the participation. He also did not reveal whether CHP Chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu would attend the reception or not. Okay also said, "I, too, have not decided yet."

Supreme Board of Judges & Prosecutors (HSYK), changing its structure, convened 68 days of interval, and visited Anitkabir (Mausoleum of Republic's founder Ataturk) before beginning its first shift. The members arrived in Anitkabir with their new 2011 model official vehicles bought by Justice Ministry. During the first gathering with 22 members, they chose temporary acting president for the Board. Former Chairman of Justice Academy Ahmet Hamsici received 13 votes and won the voting. Other candidates Ali Suat Ertosun received 6, and Huseyin Serter won 3 votes.

EU TEAMS ON TURKEY BORDER
Athens, which could not stop illegal migration from Turkey border, asked for the help of European Commission. Frontex, EU's organ responsible from border security, took action. Frontex guards were sent to Greece. The team, which will supervise 200-km Turkey-Greece border line, will be in consultation with Turkish officials too, but will not stage operations in Turkish side of the border. Frontex was established three years ago, and it undertakes a mission in a border line for the first time.

Ogun Samast, murder suspect of Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink, was availed of a change in a law which is known as "the stone-throwing children's law" in the public. Under the law, Samast's case will be heard in Juvenile Court as he was under 18 when he committed the crime.
