Turkey has hastened up her diplomacy traffic amid flaring tension between Iran and the US over Tehran’s contentious nuclear program.

Having attended the Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) at the UN headquarters in New York, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki is on a visit to Istanbul for talks with his Turkish counterpart Davutoğlu.

Briefing on the scheduled visit, Davutoğlu said that Turkey closely follows developments and attached importance to non-blocking of channels for dialogue. More room must be allowed for diplomacy, said Davutoğlu.

As part of Turkey’s African drive, Davutoğlu came together with Botswana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Phandu Skelemani at Çırağan Palace.

Holding a press conference with his counterpart after the meeting, Davutoğlu said they discussed ways to improve cooperation between the two countries.

Asked a question about his views on the visit of Iranian delegation, Davutoğlu said that Tehran’s nuclear programme concerns regional security, Turkey-Iran relations, Turkey-US relations and global peace.

Noting that Turkey keeps closely watching the process with Brazil, Davutoğlu said they will elaborately discuss the issue with Iran’s Mottaki and reminded that Turkey has offered proposals to the sides.
