The first phase of Jamaat-e-Islami's country wide train march led by Qazi Hussain Ahmad reached Lahore Tuesday night amidst overwhelming welcome and reception by workers and supporters on all the stations along the route.
Qazi Hussain Ahmad and other JI leaders including NWFP ameer Sirajul Haq, Punjab ameer Liaqat Baloch etc. began the journey in the morning from Peshawar via Tezgam and addressed the crowds at 21 railway stations before reaching Lahore.
At Lahore, local JI organization had arranged a reception for the participants of the train march at the park outside railway station where hundreds of slogan chanting and flag waving workers and supporters were waiting for the leaders' arrival. The charged workers brought Qazi and accompanying leaders to the reception in shape of a procession after the train reached Lahore station.
Addressing them Qazi urged the nation to come out to save the country from American war, bomb blasts, hunger, poverty, price hike, load shedding, lawlessness and 'slavery of Washington.' "this is no time to stay at homes, it is time to come out and help those leading the nation to the destiny of truth, justice and equality. Lahoreites should display their traditional hospitality to all the guests coming from all over the country for JI convention at Minar-e-Pakistan from October 24-26," he said, and reminding the workers that they should reach out to people and give them hopes of a better and prosper future.
He said 'it was time the nation must stand up for protecting national sovereignty, honor and independence from 'western slaves and agents' who have been plundering public resources depriving the poor masses of their due rights and basic necessities.
Qazi said JI have decided not to leave the nation alone at this time of trial and turbulence like the leaderships of other parties. He said JI has invited people from nook and corner of the country at the convention to consult them for devising the strategy to pull the country out of the present crises and make it the Islamic welfare state as envisioned by its founding fathers.
Qazi said train march would go to Sukkur from Multan on October 14 and then to Karachi on Oct. 15. Liaqat Baloch, Sirajul Haq, Farid Paracha, Hafiz Salman Butt, Amirul Azeem and others also spoke on the occasion.
Qazi announced that despite invited to attend the in-camera session of the parliament for having the briefing by the COAS on national security Wednesday (today), he had decided to proceed for Multan from Lahore heading the second leg of the train march. He said he already knew what the COAS was going to tell the parliament, and that JI senators would attend the briefing and could apprise him if there was anything new.
Qazi demanded immediate end to military operation in tribal areas and Balochistan, alleging that Washington had hatched a conspiracy to capture FATA and cut those areas from Pakistan. He lamented that instead of countering American missile and drone attacks from Afghanistan, Pakistan army was herself bombing and shelling the helpless tribal people using jet bombers and gunship helicopters, killing and wounding thousands of them. He warned against seeking aid from Washington, saying that aid was conditioned with killing tribal people and practicing Muslims, and to destroy the country so that its nuclear assets could be captured.
He criticized president Zardari for accusing innocent unarmed Kashmiris of terrorism, saying Kashmiri people were waging a historic struggle for their liberation from Indian occupation and whole world had found it indigenous and peaceful movement except those ruling Pakistan. He said India was involved in subversion and terrorism in Pakistan besides blocking water of Pakistani rivers to covert country into a desert, 'but still our rulers are flattering Indian leadership and begging for friendship.'
Qazi said after Feb 18 elections masses felt relief at the defeat of Gen Musharraf's puppets, but even after nine months of elections Musharraf's policies were not only continued but implemented with even more force and apathy towards people. Qazi noted that national hero Dr Qadeer Khan was incarcerated and not even allowed to offer Eid prayers, while hundreds of patriot Pakistanis whom Musharraf 'sold away' to Washington for the sake of dollars were not recovered and their children and families were running from pillar to post for their search. Qazi specially condemned rulers for not recovering a noble daughter of the nation, Dr Aafia Siddiqi, from American custody, and observing that leaving daughters at the mercy of enemies was height of shamelessness
Qazi said lawyers ran a historic and remarkable movement for restoration of judiciary but the PPP government refused to restore chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhri and his honest companion judges despite public demands. He expressed sorrow that now even PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif had given up the demand for restoring chief justice despite that he had taken oath before his workers that he was contesting elections for the very cause. Qazi said nobody in the nation had any expectations of justice from the Supreme Court headed by Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar.
He said price hike and scarcity of food had broken the back of the poor masses but rulers were happy with their own perks, privileges and emoluments. He said JI would provide the honest and clean leadership the nation badly required to overcome the crises facing the country, urging the masses to support JI in its efforts to save the country from American conspiracies and western agents ruling the nation.
Elaborate security arrangements were made by police on the occasion and whole park was cordoned off with tents and armed police guards. The road leading to station was closed from about 300 meters from the station which caused problems to the passengers specially the aged people in reaching there
