he Jamaat e Islami chief, Syed Munawar Hasan, has warned that military operation in North Waziristan would have disastrous consequences and the solution lay in having dialogue with the combatants.

In his inaugural address at the Central Shoora meeting of the JI at Mansoora on Monday, he said the US itself was having talk in Afghanistan but was opposing Pakistan’s talks with the other side.

The JI chief said, Washington had expressed satisfaction over the recent round of Strategic dialogue with Pakistan which implied that Pakistan had agreed to begin military operation in North Waziristan that had been an old US demand. However, he said, after this operation, the US would start the propaganda that the terrorists had fled to South Punjab and another operation was required there as well.

The US influence in this country, he said, was increasing and it had become a mafia in the entire region. The US wanted to create anarchy in this country and then begin the propaganda that the nuclear weapons in this country were unsafe and should be placed under international control, he said.

The JI chief said if military operation in Swat was a success, why was army not being called back and the independent media allowed to go there.

Syed Munawar Hasan expressed grave concern over the conditions prevailing in the country, especially target killings in Karachi. He believed there was a conspiracy to destroy Karachi, the economic hub of the country and said both the federal and the provincial governments had failed to maintain law and order as target killing could not prolong to such an extent without government backing. He said previously, the MQM alone was involved in terrorism and extortion but now the ANP too had joined in that.

Expressing deep concern over the bomb blast at the shrine of Khwaja Ghulam Farid at Pakpattan during the day resulting in over a dozen deaths, he said the targeting of religious places and shrines was actually aimed at creating disturbances on religious basis. However, he said, so far the enemy had failed in its designs although there was a grave threat for that.

Syed Munawar Hasan appreciated the rescue and relief work carried out by the JI and Al-Khidmat Foundation workers for the flood affected people. He said the task before the two organizations now was the rehabilitation of the flood affectees, which he said, would be carried on till the rehabilitation of the last man.

The Shoora meeting would continue tomorrow when an action plan for the rehabilitation of the flood affectees would be drawn.
