Explosion Hits Istanbul's Taksim Squake İn Turkey
A suspected suicide bomber injured at least 22 people in Istanbul's central Taksim Square on Sunday, Turkish media reported.

An explosion occurred in Istanbul's Taksim Squake on Sunday morning.

Istanbul Police Chief Huseyin Capkin said that 22 people including 12 policemen and 10 civilians were injured in the explosion which occurred at a spot where police officers were waiting at around 10:30 a.m.

The injured people were rushed to nearby hospitals. Meanwhile, security forces found a body at the scene.

Capkin said that an investigation was under way to determine whether the explosion caused by a suicide bomber. The scene of the attack was cordoned off and tight security measures were taken.

Mutlu told reporters, "I strongly condemn those who are responsible for this heinous act. A male bomber detonated the explosive close to a spot in Taksim square where riot police were stationed. Twelve people including ten police officers were injured. None of them are in life-threatening condition. Four of them are hospitalized."

He said that no one claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Taksim Square takes place at the heart of Turkey's biggest city Istanbul and it is a major tourist attraction and transport hub, surrounded by restaurants, shops and hotels

Turkish police chief says more bombs found, number of injured rises

Capkin said that efforts were under way to defuse the bombs.

Istanbul Police Chief Huseyin Capkin said that the police found more bombs in the central Taksim Square following Sunday morning's suicide attack.

Capkin said that efforts were under way to defuse the bombs.

"Number of injured people increased to 22. The injured includes 10 police officers and 12 civilians. We have no martyrs," he told reporters.

"A suicide bomber detonated the explosive wrapped his body while trying to get into a police vehicle. The suspected bomber was male," he said.

The body, believed to be that of the suicide bomber, was lying near the site of the explosion, covered over with newspapers.
